The process of producing a graphic novel takes a lot of time, effort, and changes along the way. We had to understand that a graphic novel mostly uses pictures to tell the story, with a few words to supplement it. For some students, this project was their cup of tea, but others found it difficult. With a clear plan, a graphic novel isn't an impossible task to accomplish.
We started with writing our story out as though it were just a creative writing piece adhering to the 'story arc' almost all stories follow. The exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution can be identified in even simple stories, like Dr. Seuss's Horton Hears a Who.
We highlighted parts in our graphic novel that could be represented by pictures instead of words.
After, we made a quick rough draft. Most of us struggled to tell a story with pictures.
Some of us did multiple rough drafts only to find out we had to do a full draft after, which encompasses all of the full drawings, words, and science.
From there, we each got it approved and produced a final draft complete with line art and for some, color. The process was long, arduous, and definitely stressful.
However, the outcome is a physical, published book that is a visual representation of our hard work. (So pls buy it :< and support our class!)
